The Quiet One

I was the quiet one growing up. Over time I learned to doubt my own judgement instead of trusting what I knew deep down, without ever having the language for why fitting in felt so effortful. It took me a long time to realise my brain simply works differently, and I still haven’t been formally diagnosed. I suspect I’m AuDHD.

I’ve always written. I got my first diary aged seven, and journaling became my lifeline after a breakdown in my twenties. Twenty-odd years on, it’s still how I hear myself think, and how I first started working with my brain instead of against it.

The Moments That Changed Things

Three decisions turned my life in a better direction: moving to Largs on the west coast of Scotland, starting my own business (which I’ve now run for 17 years), and training as a journal facilitator. None of them came with a guarantee. Each one started with a quiet inner voice saying something needed to change, and one honest step taken before I felt ready.

Confidence didn’t come first. It grew through reflection, practice, support, and one step at a time. That’s the order I still see it happen in for the women I work with.

Who I Work With

The people I’ve been proudest to help are thoughtful midlife women whose brains work differently, diagnosed or not, who’ve lost confidence in their own voice, direction or dreams after years of trying to keep up with systems that were never built for them. Through reflective journaling, I help them slow down, untangle the thoughts that never settle on their own, tell old self-doubt apart from real intuition, and take small steps forward in a way that fits how they actually think.

I’m a Certified Journal Facilitator (a qualification that took me eight years to complete, and one of my proudest achievements) and I’m currently completing an MSc in Applied Positive Psychology at Buckinghamshire New University. I don’t share theories from afar. Everything I offer is something I’ve lived, tested and still practise myself.

More About Me

When I’m not journaling, you’ll find me with Sunny, my cockatiel, or line dancing, reading, travelling, and taking long walks along the seafront when the sun’s out.
